Toad Rage is a book written by Morris Gleitzman and it for anyone who is in primary school, as it is a great read with excitement, action, and comedy to draw in the reader.
Limpy’s rellies are being squashed by cars and trains, and Limpy wants to find out why they are all being harmed. He figures that he needs to find out where he can become famous so that all of his family members are safe, so he leaps onto a truck and sets for the main city. While on his adventure, he finds a nice girl who seems to be the only human that cares for him. While on the truck he looks up and sees the answer to his problem. He will try and make people to like cane toads by becoming a mascot for the 2000 Olympic Games.
Limpy is a young, slightly squashed cane toad from QLD, who had his leg flattened by a car when he was very little. He is a very brave cane toad, trying to save his own race, even if it costs him his life (and so he doesn’t have to stack anymore rellies. He has his mum, dad, and only sibling, his sister Charm, who is a sweet, little cane toad that doesn’t want Limpy to go alone on his endeavour. Limpy’s cousin, Goliath, is a person who absolutely hates humans and is always out trying to blow up car tyres while they’re going past.
I find the book entertaining, and quite a good read. I think Limpy will never give up on his plight to stop the humans, and will do whatever it takes. Goliath is hilarious, because he thinks he is always right by doing stupid things like throwing sticks at cars passing by. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is in for a good read.
And the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry is a very special student who goes to Hogwarts Wizarding School, for young witches and wizards. The author J.K. Rowling has made every moment magical on Harry Potters wonderful adventures with Hermione and Ronald. This book is essential for all primary students who like horror, action and just about anything in between.
Harry has started his third year at Hogwarts but back at the Durseleys was ugly like usual. It started off when Aunt Marge stops by and insults Harry dearly about his parents. Then Harry blows her up into a balloon because of his rage and unfortunately has to run away from his so called home. And to make things worse the knight bus (emergency transport for witches and wizards) almost runs him over.
And in the Daily Prophet and other newspapers for muggles have said follower of Lord Voldemort, Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban so he can kill James’s son Harry Potter. Dumbledore as you can know is furious about this and has told Dementors (Azkaban security guards) to patrol the school grounds, but sometimes they may come out for a bite . . .
Harry is a young but skilful wizard whose actual parents died when they sacrificed themselves to save Harry before he got murdered by Lord Voldermort. Voldermort tried to kill them when he used a friend of James Potter to convince him to follow himself. Adventures have brought him a tiny bit closer to his parents but some adventures still remain untouched, and that is Harrys quest that he must complete that will take out Voldermort for good.
I find this book very entertaining and I think if you read it, it will take you to places unimaginable. And just might give you a glimpse of the wonderful world of magic. This is also recommended for both Boys and Girls and is the perfect novel for big readers and magnificent dreamers.
Two Wolves is a mysterious crime based adventure written by Tristan Bancks. The book has a theme of ‘independence’ and how someone becomes stronger and able to deal with things themselves. It is a gripping and intense book based around the crisis of Ben Silver and his family.
It starts off with Ben and his younger sister Olive at home after a normal school day until a police officer comes asking about his parents. His parents then arrive home and tell them that they are going on holiday. They have to have new haircuts, new clothes and their ‘ holiday’ ends up being in an old dilapidated wooden shack. All this makes Ben very suspicious and he starts trying to find out what’s doing on and what his parents have done. Once he works it all out he has to decide what to do with the information.
Ben is a decent and gentle boy. He may be a bit of a baby at times and will sometimes mistreat his sister but he is also very kind and caring towards her. He is also very smart and creative as he makes little stop motion films. Ben wants to become a detective and he is very curious and likes to solve puzzles.
Olive is very smart and imaginative. She treats her family nicely most of the time, but sometimes she may be quite needy and annoying. Olive has an old bunny plush toy called Bonzo, which she is very protective over. Olive being very creative makes up fun adventures posing as made up historical people such as ‘Olive Kelly’.
Their Dad Ray is a very aggressive and dominant character. He has had a tough life and is tough with everyone around him. He is very controlling with his wife and children and is not open to hearing other people’s opinions even though his wife seems to know more than him. Ray is not very smart and doesn’t seem to know much about anything.
Ben’s Mum April could have been a model but got pregnant with Ben and stayed with Ray. She is very caring towards the children compared to their Dad and seems to be smarter than him, but is caught up in the situation and puts up with being bossed around by Ray.
The book is well written and one of my favourites. It’s very intense and kept me interested the whole time. I thought that the book displayed amazing character development and the story is confronting and intriguing – it’s not a good situation to be in being stuck in a cabin and being pushed around by a mean, scary Dad, but it was interesting how Ben developed from being weak to being strong and capable. Another good element of the story was that it was face paced which made it interesting because it never got lingered too long on a scene and kept me on the edge of my seat.
I would recommend this book for 12 + year olds because the storyline is quite tough and challenging, but is also well written and relatively easy to read.

Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets
By Ben Woollard
Harry Potter, a talented student of Hogwarts School for witchcraft and wizardry has finally started his extremely unusual second year. His adventures with Hermione and Ron are inspiring and are always filed with joy, laughter, anger, and sadness but whatever happens there will still be one white light ready to help. The author of this magical novel, J.K Rowling has inputted everything you’ll need to be the wisest wizard of all time.
This story starts off with the Dursleys, a horrible muggle family that tries to avoid all and every kind of magic near them. As their hatred of magic they suffered calamity when they were told to look after famous Harry Potter, a wizard. Now Uncle Dursley, a plum little fellow has got a magnificent plan to sell thousands of drills and if this is a slight success they will utterly move to Majorca. Though things won’t ever be better for Harry wherever they try to go to.
Back at Hogwarts Harry hears strange whispering around the corridors he walks in. Some type of monster made by Salazar Slytherin must have produced them. This mysterious beast is hidden somewhere in the Chamber of Secrets, a secret chamber hidden somewhere beneath Hogwarts castle. And to add on a house elf called Dobby is trying to prevent Harry from danger by trying to expel him! Last of all, Harry has a mysterious oration with Tom Marvalo Riddle, Lord Voldemort.
Harry has not much of a family left. All he really has is his Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and his cousin, Dudley Dursley. He also has a godfather with the name of Sirius Black, though he doesn’t know this yet. Harry is in the house of Gryffindor who are known to be brave. His parents, James and Lilly Potter were long gone when Harry was a one years old. They were killed by the Dark Lord, a mass murderer, Voldemort. According to Albus Dumbledore, Harry survived because Lilly Potter had put love and sacrifice spell (ancient magic) to save him. Then Hagrid picked the boy up and travelled to 4 Privet Drive to deliver him to the Dursleys. Harry was almost completely unharmed but had a lightning scar on his forehead which he still has today.
I find this book very entertaining and the only problem about it is that it is very hard to put down. I recommend this book for years 4 and up and is great for boys and girls. This book is perfect to get up to date to the wonderful world of magic.
