The most mysterious book I have read lately is 'Wonderstruck', another book from Brian Selznick, who wrote 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret'.
A boy named Ben sets out to find the father he has never known after finding a puzzling clue in his mother's bedroom. Ben's story, set in new York in 1977, is told entirely in words.
Interspersed with Ben's story is Rose's story, which takes place fifty years earlier and which is told entirely in Selznick's exquisitely-detailed drawings. Rose dreams of meeting a fascinating actress and keeps a scrapbook about her.
How the two stories come together and how both find the place where they belong in the world is truly awe-inspiring. This book is unputdownable.
