I've been reading 'Pharaoh' by Jackie French. Have you ever wondered about the first pharaoh of ancient Egypt? Jackie French tells the story of Prince Narmer, chosen by his father to be the next King of Thinis. When he is betrayed by his older brother, Hawk, and mauled by a crocodile, he is no longer the perfect Golden One and can't inherit the throne. Rather than stay and serve under his brother, he decides to travel with the mysterious Trader and the crippled girl, Nitho, who had saved his life. On this journey he learns what it takes to be a true king. This is a book for mature readers. I found it really fascinating to read about the customs and challenges of people living five thousand years ago.
Whale boy blurb
Michael has never seen a whale before, nor has anyone else for years. Everyone knows they had disappeared ages ago, in the little island of Liberty. When a stranger named Spargo comes to Liberty and gives Michael what he’s always dreamed of, (his very own boat) all he has to do for Spargo is the impossible: find the whales and never to tell a soul.
When Michael finds a whale, who he calls freedom he keeps it as a secret for a while until Spargo finds out the secret and forces him to show him the whale, that’s when Michael finds out who Spargo really is and why he wants to see the whales…
